What started as a routine day quickly turned into one of the most bizarre vehicle theft cases police say they’ve ever seen — and the entire incident was reportedly captured on camera.

According to authorities, the confusion began when a man mistakenly entered a car that looked nearly identical to his own while parked outside a busy shopping center. Witnesses claimed the driver casually loaded items into the vehicle and drove away completely unaware that the car actually belonged to someone else.

Police say the real owner returned minutes later and immediately reported the vehicle missing after noticing it had vanished from the parking lot. Security footage allegedly showed the “suspect” driving off calmly without breaking windows, forcing locks, or showing any signs of panic.

Investigators later tracked down the missing vehicle and discovered the situation was far less criminal than expected. Authorities claim the man was shocked when officers informed him he had accidentally taken the wrong car, reportedly insisting he believed it was his the entire time.

According to police, the mix-up happened because the vehicles were nearly identical in color and model, and one of the doors may have been left unlocked. Officials said personal belongings inside the car apparently did not immediately raise suspicion for the confused driver.

Body camera footage reportedly captured the awkward moment officers explained the mistake, leaving everyone involved struggling not to laugh at the bizarre misunderstanding.

Fortunately, the vehicle was returned safely to its owner without damage, and authorities determined the incident appeared to be an honest mistake rather than intentional theft.

The unusual case quickly spread online, with viewers calling it one of the funniest accidental “car thefts” ever caught on camera.
