Police were stunned after discovering a young child driving a small battery-powered toy truck near the side of a busy highway after reportedly wandering away from home unattended.
According to authorities, several drivers called emergency services after spotting the child dangerously close to traffic. Officers quickly arrived and safely stopped the toy vehicle before the child could enter the roadway.
Investigators later learned the 5-year-old had allegedly been left unsupervised for an extended period. The child reportedly told officers they had left home searching for help or trying to get away from unsafe conditions.
When police tracked down the mother, officers said the home showed signs of severe neglect. Authorities described unsafe living conditions, limited supervision, and concerns about the child’s wellbeing.
The child was placed into protective care while investigators continued examining the situation. The mother could face charges related to child neglect and endangerment.
